R2 Pedrera Park

Located in Pedrera, Seville province, the R2 Park is envisioned as the main green area for a new municipal expansion zone. During the visit, its potential as a central green boulevard for the new neighborhood was identified, along with existing challenges. The presence of ‘albero’ (compacted earth) in an area with accentuated topography, combined with a lack of vegetation, has created pronounced furrows due to runoff.

The proposal focuses on creating a central promenade protected by vegetated areas, capable of providing shade and stabilizing the soil. Nature-based solutions, or SuDS, are employed. Specifically, bioremediation areas are proposed, designed to mitigate runoff through drainage and water storage. Additionally, a permeable pavement is suggested for pedestrian areas. Both solutions, connected to a water collection network, will help gather water in large cisterns to supply irrigation for the park’s new vegetation.
