Cruz Roja Avenue Reorganization

2018
Seville [ES]
Address: Reyes Gallegos
Team: María Rivas Herencia

The urban enclave formed by Cruz Roja Avenue together with Dr. Jiménez Díaz and Manuel Villalobos streets constitutes an important node in the north-south mobility of the Macarena district in Seville. In its northern extension, it is the main connector between Ronda Urbana Norte and the city’s Historic Center. This results in heavy vehicular traffic, high noise and pollution levels, as well as a scarcity of pedestrian and public spaces along a narrow-section thoroughfare.

Through this urban study, the main needs are identified using urban indicators to subsequently propose different reorganization alternatives that may lead to a reduction in traffic and a parallel promotion of pedestrian and bicycle mobility. Likewise, increased vegetation, a higher shade index, and improved public spaces will enhance the relationship with ground-floor activities. In this regard, the creation of a new plaza at the entrance to CEIP Arias Montano is concluded to be beneficial in providing an identity space for the new pedestrian heart of the neighborhood.

This preliminary project is promoted by Emvisesa and the Seville City Council.
