The apartment is located in the Quinta das Conchas neighborhood in Lisbon, within a building constructed in the 1980s under a misguided concept of well-being, focused more on creating large-area residences than on achieving optimal spatial qualities. The young family moving into the apartment seeks a different kind of
experience and approached Miguel Marcelino to design its renovation.
Respecting both economic and spatial limitations, the project’s main intervention involves creating a new connection between the kitchen and living room, spaces that were previously completely independent. This operation provides both rooms with more light and improves the practicality of the apartment’s circulation paths. The kitchen
begins to function as a social hub, and ambiguous intermediate spaces are generated. Bathrooms are fully renovated; additionally, doors, flooring, and wardrobes are rethought with the aim of achieving a more fluid experience within the apartment.
